agenta

Open-source workspace where a team builds agents by chatting, connects them to apps, and runs them on a schedule or on events, from the web app, Slack, Telegram or WhatsApp Business.

Autonomous agentsWorkflow automation

What it does

Agenta is an open-source workspace for building specialised agents that handle work such as IT operations, go-to-market, HR, legal, finance and support. You create an agent by describing the job in chat, connecting the apps it needs and improving it through feedback, so non-engineers can build agents too. Agents can be used in the web app or from Slack, Telegram or WhatsApp Business. They can also run as automations on a schedule or when something happens in a connected app, with a history of what each run did. Each agent gets its own browser and file system, and a shared workspace holds documents, research and a wiki. Control is set per agent: you choose which tools it may use, whether it can read or write with them, and what needs your approval first. Each session runs in its own sandbox, every run is traced and costs are tracked. It works with hosted models through an API, with self-hosted models through Ollama, or with a Claude or ChatGPT subscription, and it supports Claude Code, Pi and Codex today. The code is released under the MIT License. You can try the hosted Agenta Cloud or self-host it from the repository.

Capabilities

  • Build agents by chatting rather than drawing workflows
  • Use agents from the web app, Slack, Telegram or WhatsApp Business
  • Scheduled and event-triggered automations with a history of every run
  • Per-agent permissions for which tools it may use and whether it reads or writes
  • Connects through MCP and to more than 1,000 apps through Composio
  • Agents can call other agents and keep memory and skills

When to use it

  • A team wants shared agents for operations, support, finance or other work beyond coding
  • You want agents to run on a schedule or on events with a traceable history
  • You need to self-host agents and keep data on your own servers
