agents-md-cookbook

A kit for writing AGENTS.md files: stack-specific templates, a linter for CI, and a migrator that turns CLAUDE.md or .cursorrules files into a single AGENTS.md.

Command-line tools

What it does

agents-md-cookbook collects what you need to maintain an AGENTS.md file, the single Markdown file at a repository root that tells coding agents how to build, test and behave in a project. It provides copy-ready templates for many stacks, including TypeScript with Node, Python, Go, Rust, Java with Spring Boot, .NET, Next.js, Django, FastAPI and Rails, written to be short with runnable commands first. Two command-line tools are published to npm and run with bunx or npx. agents-md-lint scores an AGENTS.md against evidence-based rules and can fail CI on regressions, and agents-md-migrate converts existing CLAUDE.md, .cursorrules or GEMINI.md files into one AGENTS.md. A GitHub Action wraps the linter for workflows. A compatibility matrix shows which tools read AGENTS.md natively, which need an adapter and which need configuration. The repository is MIT licensed.

Capabilities

  • Copy-and-paste AGENTS.md templates for many stacks
  • agents-md-lint scores the file and can fail CI on regressions
  • agents-md-migrate converts CLAUDE.md, .cursorrules and GEMINI.md
  • GitHub Action for linting AGENTS.md in workflows
  • Compatibility matrix across coding tools

When to use it

  • You are adding an AGENTS.md to a repository and want a starting template for your stack
  • You have per-tool instruction files and want one file that several coding tools can read
  • You want CI to catch drift in your agent instructions
