What it does
AI2SQL is a text-to-SQL assistant. You connect a database (the site lists PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, Snowflake, BigQuery, Amazon Redshift, MongoDB, SQLite and Firebird), describe the result you want in plain language, and it writes SQL in that database's dialect using your real tables and columns. The generated query can be run over a read-only connection so you see the resulting rows. Besides generating queries it can explain a pasted query clause by clause, suggest an optimised rewrite, fix queries that will not run, and format them. The site says every statement is checked before it reaches your database, with writes and schema changes blocked, and that queries are logged. It can also be used from other places: as an MCP server for tools such as Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor, through a REST API and a read-only gateway for a team's AI agents, and through a desktop app for Windows and macOS on the Pro plan that runs next to your database.

- Explain, Optimize, Fix and Format tools for existing queries
- Read-only execution that shows result rows
- Connectors for ten databases
- MCP endpoint and REST API for AI agents
- Desktop app for Windows and macOS on the Pro plan
When to use it
- Asking questions of a database without writing the SQL by hand
- Understanding or tuning a query someone else wrote
- Debugging a query that errors or uses the wrong dialect
- Giving your own AI agent governed, read-only access to a database
