What it does

AutoGPT is a platform for creating AI agents that handle whole workflows. You can state the goal in everyday language or design each step yourself in a visual builder. Agents can then be started manually, put on a schedule or fired by a trigger. The site names four surfaces: AutoPilot, Agents, Marketplace and Build. The hosted Platform is a managed paid service with usage-based agent runs. It takes care of infrastructure, model access and credentials, and the site says it reaches hundreds of AI models and 45+ platforms, including Gmail, Slack, GitHub, Notion and Salesforce. Self-hosting is the free path: there is no license fee, but you supply the infrastructure and model API keys. The platform code is under the Polyform Shield license, free for personal and internal business use but not for resale as a competing hosted service. The original standalone agent remains available in a classic folder under the MIT License.
