What it does
Blueprint is a planning extension from Imbue for Visual Studio Code that also works in Cursor and Windsurf. You open its sidebar, describe a task and answer the questions it asks about your codebase. The questions are multiple choice and can be skipped. Once enough ground is covered you generate a plan, which is written to blueprint/<slug>/plan.md. You can refine it in chat or hand it to your coding agent. Two templates are built in. The default one covers overview, expected behavior, implementation plan, implementation phases, testing strategy and open questions. The concise one covers overview, expected behavior and changes. You can describe a custom template during onboarding or manage templates in Settings. The listing says Blueprint suits greenfield projects, large new features, incremental changes big enough to need a plan, and research experiments. It calls it a poorer fit for frontends where most decisions are visual, small refactors and debug-polish work. For terminal use it also ships as agent-agnostic skills for Claude Code, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI and other compatible harnesses.
