Boost

Free command-line tool from JFrog that trims noisy command, file and MCP output before it reaches a coding agent, cutting token use while keeping failures and summaries.

What it does

Boost sits between a coding agent and the commands it runs. Instead of letting long test logs and build output fill the agent's context, it filters the noise and keeps what matters, such as failures and summaries. The site lists Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode as supported agents. It works on more than terminal output. Boost Graph answers a code question with one graph query in place of repeated grep and file-read loops. An MCP filter re-encodes JSON tool results in the TOON format so the same data costs fewer tokens, and file optimization turns PDFs into Markdown and shrinks images before the agent reads them. The site reports Terminal-Bench 2.0 results on the same 89 tasks and success rate, with cost per task of $0.276 for Boost against $0.319 for the baseline. Boost is described as free forever with no signup, and not a paid JFrog platform product. Downloads are offered for macOS and Windows, with documentation and a quickstart on the site.

Capabilities

  • Trims noisy command output so failures and summaries stay in context
  • Boost Graph replaces grep and read loops with a single graph query
  • MCP filter that re-encodes JSON results to use fewer tokens
  • File optimization that converts PDFs to Markdown and shrinks images
  • Works with Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode

When to use it

  • Your coding agent spends many tokens reading long test, build or install logs
  • You want to lower the token cost of agent sessions without changing your workflow
  • You use MCP tools whose JSON responses are large
