What it does
goose is a locally running AI agent that is not limited to programming. The project describes uses such as research, writing, automation and data analysis alongside code. You can use it through desktop apps for macOS, Linux and Windows, a command-line interface, or an API that lets other software embed the agent. It is built in Rust. It works with more than 15 model providers, including Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Ollama, OpenRouter, Azure and Bedrock. You can use API keys, or sign in with a Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini subscription you already have through the Agent Client Protocol. More than 70 extensions connect through the Model Context Protocol. The project sits under the Agentic AI Foundation at the Linux Foundation and is released under Apache-2.0. A custom distribution can also be built with preset providers, extensions and branding.
