What it does
DaVinci Resolve brings video editing, color correction, visual effects, motion graphics and audio post production into one application. Version 21 adds a Photo page that applies its color tools to still images. Work is split into pages for media, photo, cut, edit, Fusion, color, Fairlight audio and deliver, and you switch between them with a click. The AI features centre on the DaVinci AI Neural Engine, which the page lists under the paid Studio edition. It powers facial recognition, object detection, smart reframing, speed warp retiming, super scale, and auto color and color matching, and it can sort clips into bins by the people in the shot. Version 21 introduces AI tools such as IntelliSearch for finding content, CineFocus for adjusting the focal point, and facial refinement. Fairlight adds AI effects including Voice Isolation and Music Remixer, and IntelliTrack, which uses video to track the audio panner. Studio also lists text based editing and Magic Mask. Several people can work on one project at the same time through multi-user collaboration and Blackmagic Cloud. The software runs on Mac, Windows and Linux, and the company also sells editor keyboards, color panels and audio consoles.
