What it does

Junie is a coding agent from JetBrains. The site presents it as agent software that lets you pick the model, and says more than ten models can be used by supplying your own API key. Junie CLI installs with a one-line command on Mac, Linux or Windows, and the same agent is offered inside IDEs through Air, as a GitHub Action for issues and pull requests, and in GitLab CI/CD. Before it touches code, Plan Mode can write out requirements, design and delivery stages as plan files you can edit and commit, and planning and implementation can be run on different models. You can steer the agent mid-task, review and approve key actions, and use a dynamic allowlist for commands. For long jobs such as migrations or adding test coverage, remote control lets you start a task on a laptop and follow its progress from a phone. Teams can add custom guidelines and Agent Skills so Junie keeps to their conventions and review expectations from one session to the next, and commands are shared between the CLI and IDEs. The site also mentions SOC 2 certification for JetBrains tools.

Capabilities

  • Works with a model you choose, with 10+ models supported through your own API key
  • Plan Mode writes a structured plan before changing code, and planning and implementation can use different models
  • Live prompting lets you steer the agent while it works
  • Runs in a terminal, in Air, as a GitHub Action, and in GitLab CI/CD
  • Remote control to start a task on a laptop and monitor it from a phone
  • Custom guidelines and Agent Skills that persist across sessions

When to use it

  • You want a terminal coding agent that can run on your own model provider
  • You want to review a plan and approve key actions before the agent acts
  • You have migrations or test-coverage work to run asynchronously and monitor remotely
  • You want to start AI tasks from GitHub or GitLab issues and merge requests
