What it does
MemFree is an open-source project with two parts: a hybrid AI search engine and an AI page generator. The search side answers questions from the internet and from a personal knowledge base of bookmarks, notes and documents, using AI to summarise the best sources instead of leaving you to click through many results. Search can use ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini models together with Google, Exa and a vector index. Inputs can be text, images, files or web pages, and results can appear as text, mind maps, images or videos. Local files in text, PDF, Docx, PPTX and Markdown formats are supported, Chrome bookmarks can be synced and indexed, search history syncs across devices, and results can be shared. The page generator turns text, images or file contents into a React, Tailwind and shadcn/ui page, with a live preview, a code editor, responsive and dark-mode previews, one-click publishing and screenshot export. The README names Claude 3.5 Sonnet as the model behind it. The code is MIT licensed. The README gives self-hosting steps that need an OpenAI API key, an Upstash Redis database and a Serper API key, plus deployment guides for services including Vercel, Cloudflare Pages, Netlify, Railway, Zeabur and Fly.io.
