What it does
MinusX is a business intelligence platform built around a data agent. You connect a database, warehouse, CSV upload or Google Sheet, then ask questions in plain language and get SQL analysis, dashboards, metrics, alerts, slides and written data stories rather than only a chat reply. It keeps a knowledge base of metric definitions and business context, such as how a power user is defined or which test orders to always exclude, and learns from each interaction. Evals let you test whether the agent still answers correctly. The BI side includes a SQL editor, a point-and-click query builder and charts such as maps, funnels and heatmaps. You can ask questions from Slack, expose an MCP server to other AI agents, and set up scheduled reports, threshold alerts and nudges. Sources shown include Postgres, BigQuery, Athena and DuckDB. MinusX runs on MinusX Cloud, with optional bring-your-own LLM keys, or self-hosted through an open-source edition that the site describes as source-available and inspectable. The site says MinusX ranks first on DataAgentBench, a benchmark from UC Berkeley's EPIC lab, as of June 2026. It also mentions SOC 2 Type II and GDPR, and offers help migrating from Metabase, Redash or another BI tool.
