What it does
Claude Code Router, or CCR, is a local model gateway and control plane for coding agents. Agents including Claude Code, Codex, Grok CLI, Kimi CLI, Kilo Code and OpenCode point at one stable local endpoint, while providers, models, accounts, routing rules and tools are managed in one place. Providers are added from presets or custom endpoints. The site lists support for OpenAI, Anthropic and Gemini request formats and for providers such as OpenRouter, DeepSeek, Mistral and Moonshot. Routing rules can match on headers and request bodies, rewrite requests, retry, and fall back through an ordered list of models. Fusion vision, web search, MCP tools and ToolHub add capabilities to existing models, and there is built-in browser automation. A request log shows the resolved provider, model, latency, token use and estimated cost, and separate client keys can carry expiry dates and local limits. It runs as a desktop app for macOS, Windows and Linux, as an npm command line tool that serves a browser-based management interface (Node.js 22 or newer), or in Docker. The project is MIT licensed.
Capabilities
- One local endpoint for many coding agents and API clients
- Provider presets and custom endpoints with model discovery
- Routing conditions, request rewrites, retries and ordered fallback models
- Fusion vision, web search, MCP tools and ToolHub
- Request logs with latency, tokens and estimated cost
- Desktop app, npm command line tool and Docker deployment
When to use it
- You run several coding agents and want one place to manage their model providers
- You want automatic retries or fallback models when a provider fails
- You need to see which model handled each request and what it cost
