What it does

The official site says NotebookLM became Gemini Notebook in July 2026. It describes the change as the same product, with existing notebooks still accessible, and says it can still be used as a standalone tool on web and mobile. You upload sources and ask questions, and the answers are grounded in the material you provide. The site presents it as a research assistant built with the latest Gemini model. It names Audio Overviews, which read a summary of your sources aloud in a podcast style, along with flashcards, quizzes and dynamic reporting for study or meeting preparation. Suggested uses include reviewing meeting notes and reports, drafting emails and proposals from your sources, brainstorming and refining a script, and recapping the day. Public featured notebooks, such as the complete works of Shakespeare, let you explore it before building your own. On privacy, the site says organization and school data stays private and is not used to train the product, and that individual content is not used for training unless you share feedback. It also warns that deleted notebooks currently cannot be recovered.
