What it does
RunAPI MCP Server connects MCP-compatible tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Windsurf, VS Code and Roo Code to the RunAPI service. An assistant can list models by type, read a model's input constraints and current pricing, search reusable prompt examples, create media tasks, poll their status and check account balance. The README puts the catalogue at more than 160 executable models across four types of media. The discovery tools work without an API key because they use a catalogue bundled into the package. Creating tasks, fetching task status and checking balance need a RunAPI sign-in, either through the login tool, an environment variable or a shared config file. Task creation requires an idempotency key so a retried call does not produce a duplicate job, and it can wait for completion or return a task ID straight away. It can run locally over stdio with npx, or remote clients can connect to a hosted MCP endpoint that supports OAuth or an API key. The package is a client only and does not run generation locally. Source is published under the Apache-2.0 licence.
Capabilities
- List and filter RunAPI models by media type, service and action
- Read each model's input rules and current runtime pricing
- Search reusable prompt examples by category, tag or model
- Create media tasks with idempotency keys, then wait or poll for results
- Check account balance and spending
- Run locally with npx or connect to a hosted MCP endpoint
When to use it
- You want your coding assistant to generate images, video or audio through one service
- You want to compare model options and prices before spending
- You need a safe, retryable way to start long-running media jobs from an agent
