What it does

Theneo is a documentation platform for APIs. It generates complete docs from an API spec and brings API reference pages, user guides, changelogs and private customer portals together in one place. The site says it has used its own AI for doc generation since 2022 and that more than 18,000 companies use it. Teams edit together in real time. Engineers can write in Markdown while others use a visual editor on the same document, with live cursors, comments, rollback and audit logs. Changelogs flag breaking changes automatically. For readers, an Ask AI feature answers developer questions, and an MCP server and llms.txt file make the docs usable by AI agents. Customer portals can require sign-in so each customer sees only the APIs, guides and SDKs that apply to them, with visibility into which customers read which docs. Enterprise features listed include custom SSO (SAML/OIDC), custom roles, custom domains, white-labelling, SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001 and 9001, EU data residency and self-hosting.
