What it does
Vertex AI is a managed platform from Google Cloud for building and using generative AI. It includes Vertex AI Studio, where you design and test prompts with text, images, video or code, and Agent Builder, which is for building, scaling and governing agents that work from your own data. Model Garden lists more than 200 models: Google's own (Gemini, Imagen, Chirp, Veo), third-party models such as Anthropic's Claude family, and open models such as Gemma and Llama 3.2. Models can be tuned to a use case, and a generative AI evaluation service helps compare and assess them. For classic machine learning the platform covers custom training with the framework of your choice, notebooks that connect to BigQuery, and prediction for batch and online use. MLOps tools include pipelines, a model registry, a feature store and monitoring for input skew and drift. Usage is billed as you go across tools, storage and compute, and new customers get up to $300 in free credits.
