VoltAgent

MIT-licensed TypeScript framework for assembling agents with typed tools, memory, workflows and MCP, paired with the VoltOps Console for traces, evals, guardrails and deployment.

Agent frameworksObservability & evals

What it does

VoltAgent describes itself as an AI agent engineering platform with two parts. The first is an open-source TypeScript framework for building agents. The second is VoltOps Console, available as cloud or self-hosted, for observability, automation, deployment, evals, guardrails and prompts. The framework lets you define agents with typed roles, tools, memory and model providers in one place, describe multi-step workflows declaratively with suspend and resume support, and run teams of specialised sub-agents under a supervisor. It connects to Model Context Protocol servers, adds retrieval and a managed knowledge base, and includes voice (text to speech and speech to text), guardrails and eval suites. Providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic and Google can be swapped through configuration. New projects start from a create-voltagent-app command that scaffolds an agent and an example expense approval workflow, served locally so you can chat with the agent through the console. The repository lists example agents for Slack, Airtable, WhatsApp, YouTube-to-blog conversion and research reports.

Capabilities

  • Typed agents with tools, memory and swappable model providers
  • Declarative multi-step workflows with suspend and resume
  • Supervisor agents coordinating specialist sub-agents
  • MCP connectivity, retrieval and a managed knowledge base
  • VoltOps Console with traces, logs, evals, guardrails and deployment
  • Voice support for text to speech and speech to text

When to use it

  • Building multi-agent applications in TypeScript
  • Adding human approval steps to automated workflows
  • Needing traces, evals and guardrails around agents in production
