What it does

Whisper by Remskill is a desktop app for Mac and Windows that types what you say wherever your cursor is. You hold a hotkey, speak, and the words appear in any app that accepts typing, from chat and email to code editors. It has two modes. Local mode runs fully offline, transcribing with OpenAI Whisper or NVIDIA Parakeet and cleaning up text through Ollama with an open-source model of your choice. Cloud mode uses OpenAI's transcription model through your own API key, which the site says carries no markup, and adds live web answers. Spoken commands that begin with 'Hey Whisper' can search the web, turn a ramble into a formatted email, or translate between 90+ languages. You can also select existing text and dictate a rewrite, save instruction packs on number hotkeys, keep a personal dictionary for names and acronyms, strip filler words, and have system audio muted while recording. Asking about something on your screen sends a screenshot to OpenAI and is a Pro, cloud-mode feature.
