GitHub says it has resumed the gradual rollout of Moonshot AI’s Kimi K3 model in GitHub Copilot after a temporary pause linked to a GitHub Actions incident. The model is available through usage-based billing for eligible Copilot plans, while Business and Enterprise access is disabled by default.
GitHub has resumed rolling out Kimi K3 in GitHub Copilot, according to an August 6, 2026 update to the company’s official changelog.
The update follows a temporary pause that GitHub said was necessary while it mitigated an incident involving GitHub Actions. In a subsequent editor’s note, GitHub said the rollout had resumed and confirmed that Kimi K3 would be billed at provider list pricing through Copilot’s usage-based billing system.
GitHub describes Kimi K3 as an open-weight model. Its supported-model documentation identifies the model’s provider as Moonshot AI and lists Kimi K3 as generally available in Copilot.
GitHub hosts the model on Fireworks AI infrastructure, according to the changelog.
Kimi K3 is rolling out to GitHub Copilot Pro, Pro+, Max, Business, and Enterprise customers. Eligible users will be able to select it through Copilot’s model picker, although GitHub cautioned that the model may not immediately appear for every account during the staged release.
GitHub lists support for Kimi K3 across its principal Copilot surfaces, including Visual Studio Code, Visual Studio, Copilot CLI, the Copilot cloud agent, the GitHub Copilot app, github.com, GitHub Mobile for iOS and Android, JetBrains IDEs, Xcode, and Eclipse.
GitHub’s model catalog also documents model-specific details such as compatible clients, plan eligibility, context-window information, and reasoning support. Actual availability will depend on a customer’s subscription, administrator settings where applicable, and the progress of the rollout.
GitHub said Kimi K3 is billed at provider list pricing under usage-based billing, directing customers to Copilot’s model and request pricing documentation for current details.
In the notice published during the pause, GitHub said planned Kimi K3 rates would be $3 per million input tokens, $15 per million output tokens, and $0.30 per million cached input tokens. The resumed-rollout note, however, refers customers to the current pricing page rather than repeating those figures.
For Copilot Business and Copilot Enterprise, Kimi K3 is disabled by default, GitHub said. Organization administrators must enable access before users on those plans can select the model.
GitHub said it will continue monitoring Kimi K3’s quality and performance as the release expands. The addition gives Copilot customers another model option for coding and agent-oriented development work across IDE, command-line, web, and mobile environments.
