What it does
agend is a managed Linux environment that an AI agent operates through MCP terminal tools. Users bring their own agent and model access. The agend CLI connects the agent to the environment, which has interactive terminal tools and persistent storage. The agent reads terminal output and sends keystrokes. The input readiness feature signals when an interactive program is waiting for terminal input. The agent can then read the prompt and respond. To connect, create an account, install the CLI, run agend login, create an environment with agend env create, then run agend config to configure a supported installed client. Model subscriptions and API charges are separate from the agend plan.
Capabilities
- Each environment runs in a Firecracker microVM with its own guest kernel and filesystem.
- Session state persists between tool calls, and files persist on the environment's storage.
- Agents can install Linux packages and access reachable network services.
- Idle environments sleep after the client disconnects: after 30 minutes on Developer and after 2 hours on Pro.
- The agend config command configures supported installed clients, including Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code and Gemini CLI.
When to use it
- An installer waits at a prompt that your agent cannot answer.
- A REPL or database session loses state between tool calls.
- A CLI test needs repeated manual navigation and result checks.
