Cowboy for Herdr

Cowboy for Herdr is a phone app that shows which coding agents running in Herdr on your machine are waiting for an answer and lets you reply from your phone.

Observability & evals

What it does

Cowboy watches the coding agents on your machine, including Claude Code and Codex in Herdr. It needs Herdr on a machine you can reach over ssh. You add a host as user@host. Cowboy connects straight to the machine running Herdr and reads each agent's pane. It ranks workspaces, agents and output by who needs you. Blocked agents appear first as solid red cards. Cowboy parses the agent's prompt into options. Input starts off. You turn input on deliberately, then tap an option, tap a quick key, or type a line. Cowboy says it uses no relay, no account and no copy of your code anywhere else.

Capabilities

  • Five agent states are shown with a glyph, a word and a colour: Blocked, Done, Working, Idle and Unknown.
  • Input is a mode. The top bar turns amber and counts down, and input switches itself off.
  • Cowboy shows the last lines of each pane in monospace.
  • Cowboy sends a notification when an agent is waiting on you, only while the app is closed.
  • Connections use SSH or Tailscale with keys, ssh-agent, or a tailnet browser login, and Cowboy finds Herdr's socket.

When to use it

  • You want to know whether any coding agent on your machine needs you.
  • You want to reply to an agent that asks to push without going back to your laptop.
  • You want to look around the built-in made-up demo session.
