Pigeon

Pigeon is the API that sends a welcome after signup, a password reset, a receipt, or an invite.

Email

What it does

Pigeon sends the mail an application owes its users. The developer adds a domain, and Pigeon lists the DNS records to set. Mail goes out once the domain status says Verified. The developer puts a sending key in the app. A sending key calls the API or SMTP. The app then sends from the product, and the dashboard keeps a log of each call. The Node example calls pigeon.emails.send with from, to, subject and html fields. Python, Go, Java, Rust, Elixir and SMTP use the same fields. Pigeon also covers newsletters and incoming mail.

Capabilities

  • Pigeon lists the DNS records to add, and mail goes out once the domain status says Verified.
  • A full-access key can manage domains too.
  • Newsletters use a from address on a verified domain, and only confirmed readers receive the next issue.
  • Newsletter issues can be written in the dashboard or published from the API.
  • Incoming mail is received at an address such as [email protected] after the domain's MX record points at pigeonfs.com, and the subject and body are stored encrypted.

When to use it

  • You need to send a welcome email after signup.
  • You need to send a password reset, receipt or invite.
  • You want to run a newsletter where only confirmed readers receive the next issue.
