PlayWeld

PlayWeld is an open-source desktop IDE and project workspace for game development.

Code editorsDocs & workspaces

What it does

PlayWeld keeps project notes, plans, conversations, and connected tools alongside native game files. It brings design notes, decisions, and project tasks into one workspace. It works with Godot, Unity, or Unreal Engine. Users choose when AI is part of the work. The v0.21.0 build is a testing prerelease for Windows and Linux. The walkthrough shows a user opening a design, writing a review note, and saving it alongside the game files. It then shows the user queuing a local knowledge reconciliation task, choosing lexical search, and searching the indexed project. PlayWeld recommends trying the testing build with a copy of your project.

Capabilities

  • Tagged status threads support manual review, and users can resolve a thread and switch between Open and All thread filters.
  • Lexical search finds matching project notes and design text, and no model provider is used in that feature clip.
  • The Swarm view in the walkthrough shows only an impact preview of reviewing two documents, and no AI or Swarm task is executed.
  • Community-made extensions, plugins, skills, and agent roles are available to browse.
  • Lantern Workshop is a free Godot example project for trying project notes, team decisions, chat, and search.

When to use it

  • You want to try project notes, team decisions, chat, and search without putting an existing game at risk.
  • You want to keep design notes, native game files, decisions, and project tasks together in one workspace.
  • You want to organize a review checklist manually by tagging and resolving discussions.
