Reika

Reika is a coding agent command-line tool for local and hosted models, designed around small local models first.

Coding agentsCommand-line tools

What it does

Reika is installed with npm, pnpm or Homebrew. Point it at a model server and run reika in a project. Old tool output collapses to short summaries. Requests stay append-only. Reika says this lets a slow local engine's prompt cache survive. Reika detects repeated reads and runaway reasoning and stops them. Blind edits go back for a read first. TypeScript edits are typechecked. Plan progress is tracked from what actually happened. Reika has modes for planning before anything changes, putting a harder change through a test-and-review procedure, keeping a small window lean, or chatting. Shift+Tab switches modes. Reika says it does not make a small model smarter, but makes working with one less frustrating.

Capabilities

  • Detects repeated reads and runaway reasoning and stops them.
  • Typechecks TypeScript edits.
  • Sends blind edits back for a read first.
  • Dangerous commands still prompt, and on macOS shell commands run in a kernel sandbox.
  • Default-on features keep an off switch for A/B runs, and Reika publishes what they did and did not fix.

When to use it

  • You want a coding agent designed around small local models.
  • You want to plan before anything changes.
  • You want to put a harder change through a test-and-review procedure.
