Request Eagle

Request Eagle is a native desktop API client and Postman alternative, written in Rust and rendered on the GPU.

Testing & QA

What it does

Request Eagle sends GET, POST, PUT, PATCH, DELETE, HEAD and OPTIONS requests from a desktop app with no web view inside. Each request is stored as a TOML file in a folder you control. There is no account and no export step. The Git panel lets you commit, pull, push and sync with the git you already use. Pre-request and post-response scripts are written in JavaScript with a pm.* API. Script results appear next to the response. Claude Code, Codex or OpenCode can run in a panel next to your requests. The agent reads the code behind your API and fixes or creates saved requests. Request Eagle says it answers a first keystroke 0.36 seconds after launch, while Postman takes 4.33 seconds. Those are median figures from five launches of each app on a MacBook Pro with an M5 Pro, using Request Eagle 0.1.28 and Postman 12.31.3 signed in to an account. Request Eagle is in early development.

Capabilities

  • Scripts can chain requests with await pm.sendRequest and can run assertions and JSON Schema checks.
  • Scripts include SHA-256, HMAC and Base64 helpers, and typed completion needs no Node.js.
  • You can send a request with ⌘↵ from anywhere in the request, rebind any shortcut, and switch on Vim mode for the body and script editors.
  • The optional request-eagle-cli speaks JSON, describes its own schema and runs without the app, with commands such as requests.list and requests.run.
  • Eleven theme families are each available in light and dark, with a choice of editor font and an interface scale from 12 to 24 px.

When to use it

  • You want to keep a request collection inside your project's repository.
  • You want an agent to fix or create saved requests based on the code behind your API.
