Anthropic Adds Economic Index Connector to Claude for Exploring AI Job-Impact Data

Anthropic has launched an Economic Index connector in Claude, giving users a way to query its public dataset on how Claude is used across occupations, tasks, and regions. The company says the connector is available from Claude’s connectors menu without installation.

Anthropic has launched an Economic Index connector for Claude that lets users query public data about how Claude is being used across jobs, tasks, and regions.

Claude gets access to Anthropic’s Economic Index data

Anthropic said in a company announcement that the new Anthropic Economic Index connector is available from the connectors menu in Claude.ai and requires no installation. According to Anthropic, the connector is intended to make its Economic Index data easier to explore directly through Claude, rather than requiring users to download or analyze the underlying dataset separately.

The Anthropic Economic Index is the company’s public effort to study how AI systems are being used in the economy. Anthropic’s announcement says the connector allows users to ask Claude questions about AI use across occupations and tasks, including how different types of work appear in the dataset and where AI is being used for automation or augmentation.

Future Tools, which tracks AI product updates, also reported that the connector lets users ask questions about occupations, teacher tasks, and automation trends using Anthropic Economic Index data. StartupHub.ai similarly described the release as making Anthropic’s real-world AI economic data available through Claude.

What the connector is designed to do

Anthropic’s announcement frames the connector as an analysis tool for the public Economic Index dataset. Instead of browsing static charts or manually working with files, users can ask Claude questions in natural language and receive responses based on the Index data.

The company says the connector can be used to explore how Claude is being used around the world and how those patterns relate to labor-market categories. Anthropic’s stated examples include asking about occupations, work tasks, and whether AI use appears more associated with automation or with assistance alongside human work.

Anthropic’s Economic Index dataset documentation on Hugging Face indicates that the release includes Claude usage metrics aggregated by geography and analysis dimensions. The documentation says the dataset covers Claude chat, Claude Cowork, and first-party API data, with usage summarized rather than exposed as raw individual conversations.

Why it matters

The release gives researchers, journalists, policy analysts, and other Claude users a more accessible interface for Anthropic’s own AI-use data. Because the connector is built into Claude.ai, Anthropic says users can access it from the connectors menu without a separate setup process.

The move also reflects a broader push by AI companies to publish data about how their systems are being used in workplaces. Anthropic’s Economic Index has focused on measuring AI’s relationship to tasks and occupations, an area of growing interest as employers, workers, and policymakers evaluate how generative AI may affect employment.

The connector does not, by itself, prove how AI is changing jobs across the entire economy. Anthropic’s dataset is based on usage of Claude and related Anthropic services, according to the company’s documentation, so it reflects activity within Anthropic’s products rather than all AI systems or all workplaces. Still, the new connector may lower the barrier for users who want to inspect Anthropic’s public data and ask more specific questions about observed usage patterns.

Availability

Anthropic says the Economic Index connector is available in Claude.ai through the connectors menu. The company’s announcement says no installation is required.
