NAVER, NVIDIA and Brookfield Plan $10 Billion Expansion of Korea AI Data Center Infrastructure

NAVER says it will work with NVIDIA and Brookfield to expand its GAK Sejong AI data center infrastructure to 200 megawatts by 2028, with financing commitments of up to $10 billion. The companies frame the project as part of South Korea’s sovereign AI infrastructure push.

NAVER, NVIDIA and Brookfield plan to expand South Korea’s AI data center infrastructure through a project valued at up to $10 billion.

According to announcements from NAVER Corp. and NVIDIA Newsroom, the companies aim to expand NAVER’s GAK Sejong hyperscale data center infrastructure to 200 megawatts by 2028. NAVER said Brookfield will fund up to $9 billion, NVIDIA will invest $1 billion, and NAVER will finance the remaining portion of the project.

A 200 MW AI infrastructure buildout in Sejong

NAVER described the project as an expansion of Korea’s “national AI factory” infrastructure, centered on its GAK Sejong data center. NVIDIA said the expanded site is intended to support AI models, AI services and agent-based applications.

Data Center Dynamics also reported that NAVER confirmed plans to expand the Sejong facility to 200 MW, citing backing of up to $10 billion from Brookfield and NVIDIA. Yonhap News Agency separately reported that NAVER had secured a combined $10 billion investment commitment from NVIDIA and Brookfield for an AI data center project in South Korea.

The financing structure outlined by NAVER places Brookfield as the largest outside funder. Brookfield is expected to provide up to $9 billion, while NVIDIA’s stated contribution is $1 billion. NAVER said it will fund the remainder of the project.

Part of Korea’s sovereign AI ambitions

NVIDIA Newsroom said the project is intended to expand Korea’s sovereign AI infrastructure. The term generally refers to compute capacity, data systems and AI services operated within a country’s jurisdiction and aligned with local industrial or public-sector priorities.

NAVER has positioned the Sejong expansion as a foundation for domestic AI development. The company’s announcement said the infrastructure will support AI models and services, while NVIDIA said NAVER intends to pursue a path toward 1 gigawatt of AI infrastructure over time.

Data Center Dynamics reported that NAVER has stated an intent to expand deployments of NVIDIA chips toward that 1 GW figure. The confirmed near-term expansion, however, is the 200 MW target for 2028 described in the company announcements.

Why the deal matters

The planned investment reflects how AI infrastructure is becoming a major capital expenditure category for technology companies, energy investors and chip suppliers. Instead of only selling software or chips, companies are increasingly financing and building large-scale data center capacity to run AI workloads.

NAVER’s role is significant because it is one of South Korea’s major internet and cloud companies. By expanding GAK Sejong, the company is seeking to add capacity for AI services that can be delivered from domestic infrastructure.

NVIDIA’s participation also fits its broader role in supplying computing systems for AI data centers. In this project, the company is not only a technology supplier but also an investor, according to NAVER and NVIDIA’s announcements.

Brookfield’s planned financing underscores the growing link between AI infrastructure and long-duration investment in power, real estate and data center assets. AI data centers require substantial electricity supply, cooling, land and financing, making infrastructure investors important participants in the sector.

What remains to watch

The companies have outlined the financing commitments and the 200 MW target, but the public announcements do not provide a detailed construction schedule beyond the 2028 goal. They also do not specify the full technical configuration of the expanded facility.

For South Korea, the project could increase domestic capacity for training and running AI systems, but its ultimate impact will depend on execution, power availability, cost, and how NAVER and its partners allocate the capacity across enterprise, public-sector and consumer services.

For now, the source-backed facts are clear: NAVER, NVIDIA and Brookfield have announced a major expansion plan for AI data center infrastructure in Sejong, with up to $10 billion in financing and a target of 200 MW by 2028.
