Meta has launched Meta Business Agent, an AI offering for businesses using WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram. The company says it can answer customer questions, recommend catalogue products, qualify leads, book appointments and support sales, alongside an enterprise platform for custom agents.
Meta has introduced Meta Business Agent, an AI tool intended to help companies manage customer conversations across WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram.
In its announcement, Meta said the product can answer customer questions, recommend products from a business catalogue, qualify prospective leads, schedule appointments and help close sales. The company is positioning the agent as a way to provide customer assistance within messaging channels that people already use to contact brands.
The launch broadens Meta’s business-focused AI efforts beyond consumer assistants. Rather than sending customers to a separate chatbot service, the company is aiming to embed automation in direct-message conversations between businesses and their customers.
According to Meta’s newsroom post, Business Agent is designed to handle repeatable interactions that can consume time for customer-service and sales teams. These include responding to product questions, helping shoppers find relevant items and identifying customers who may be ready to buy.
Meta also said the system can support appointment booking. That capability could be useful for service businesses that receive scheduling requests through social-media messages, including businesses that rely on Instagram, WhatsApp or Messenger as an initial contact channel.
The company’s stated use cases combine support and commerce. An agent could address a question about a product, draw on catalogue information to make a recommendation and then guide a prospective customer through a sales conversation. Meta describes lead qualification as another function, allowing businesses to distinguish higher-intent enquiries from more general requests.
Alongside Business Agent, Meta announced an enterprise platform that it says will let organizations build customized AI agents for their own operations. Reuters reported that the platform is aimed at enabling companies to create agents that can manage day-to-day business work.
Meta said its business AI offering can integrate with systems including Shopify and Zendesk. Shopify connections could provide access to merchant product and commerce information, while Zendesk integration could tie AI-assisted conversations into established customer-support workflows.
Those integrations are significant because business agents depend on current information. Product availability, catalogue details, support policies and customer-service processes often sit in software already used by merchants and support teams. Connecting to those systems may reduce the need to maintain a separate set of information solely for messaging interactions.
The release puts Meta more directly into the competition for enterprise AI spending, where technology providers are promoting tools that automate portions of support, sales and internal operations. Meta’s differentiator is its control of major consumer messaging platforms that many businesses already use for customer communication.
Meta has emphasized practical commercial tasks rather than presenting Business Agent as a general-purpose assistant. Its announced capabilities focus on customer questions, recommendations, appointments, lead qualification and sales support.
The product’s adoption will depend on how reliably businesses can connect it to their existing data and workflows, and how well automated messaging performs in customer-facing situations. For companies, the central challenge will be using automation to improve response times while retaining effective human support for requests that require judgment or more detailed assistance.
