Meta Introduces Muse Code Beta and Muse Spark 1.2

Meta Superintelligence Labs has unveiled Muse Code, a beta terminal-based coding tool powered by the Muse Spark 1.2 model. The company says the system is designed for complex work across large software repositories, using persistent background processes and a restart-safe runtime.

Meta launches a terminal coding tool

Meta Superintelligence Labs has introduced Muse Code, a beta coding tool for macOS and Linux built around its newly announced Muse Spark 1.2 model.

According to Meta’s research announcement, Muse Code is intended to handle complex software-engineering work in large code repositories. The company says it can plan changes, write code and validate results from within a terminal environment.

Meta has provided an installation command through its developer site, positioning Muse Code as an early-access tool for developers working locally on macOS or Linux.

Persistent background workers

A central part of Muse Code’s design is a main control loop supported by asynchronous background workers. Meta says these workers remain active throughout a session rather than being created separately for each task.

The company argues that keeping those workers active can reduce repeated information gathering during multistep engineering work. The background workers can pursue follow-up tasks and decide when to report findings back to the primary process, according to the announcement.

Meta describes this approach as a way to reduce latency and the amount of manual direction needed for difficult tasks. The company has not provided independent benchmark results in the cited announcement to substantiate those performance claims.

A replayable local runtime

Muse Code also records model requests, tool executions, approvals and edits in a local event log, Meta said. The company describes that log as the system’s single record of activity, enabling a session to be replayed and resumed after an interruption.

That recovery feature is particularly relevant for long-running programming tasks, where a crash or lost session can otherwise require a developer to restart work or rebuild context. Meta says Muse Code can return to the point at which it stopped, though the announcement does not detail the limits of recovery across different environments or repository states.

Muse Spark 1.2 availability

Muse Code is powered by Muse Spark 1.2, which Meta characterizes as its newest model. Meta’s developer model catalog includes a listing for the Muse Spark family, while the Associated Press reported that the company announced developer access to Muse Spark 1.2 alongside its broader Muse model releases.

The release puts Meta into a growing market for coding systems that can operate across files, tools and extended development tasks rather than only suggest isolated code snippets. For now, Muse Code remains a beta product, and Meta’s announcement emphasizes its architecture and intended workflow more than public evaluation data.

Developers considering the tool will need to assess its behavior in their own repositories, including how it handles permissions, validation steps and recovery after interrupted work.
