Meta introduces Muse Image and previews Muse Video for AI-generated media

Meta announced Muse Image, a new image generation and editing model for Meta AI, and previewed Muse Video, a forthcoming video generation model. The company says the tools are being introduced across consumer surfaces including Meta AI, Instagram Stories and WhatsApp, while a separate Meta AI research post outlines...

Meta introduced Muse Image and previewed Muse Video as new generative media models from Meta Superintelligence Labs, according to announcements from Meta AI and Meta Newsroom.

Meta launches Muse Image for consumer apps

Meta Newsroom describes Muse Image as an image generation and editing model built for Meta AI and other creative surfaces across the company’s apps. The company says the model can create new images from prompts and edit existing ones, including features such as restyling images, changing outfits, and redesigning rooms.

According to Meta Newsroom, Muse Image is being made available through Meta AI and is also connected to consumer features in Instagram Stories and WhatsApp. Reuters, in a report carried by Euronext, similarly reported that Meta is rolling out Muse Image across its apps, including Instagram Stories and WhatsApp features.

Axios described Muse Image as Meta’s first picture-generating model from Meta Superintelligence Lab, and reported that the company is positioning the release as part of its broader push to improve its AI products.

Muse Video is still a preview

Alongside the image model, Meta AI published a research-focused post introducing a preview of Muse Video. Axios reported that Muse Video is a forthcoming movie-generation model for Meta AI, while Reuters said Meta announced an early preview of the video generation model.

Meta AI’s own research post presents Muse Video as part of the same media-generation effort as Muse Image, sharing samples, research details and evaluation claims. Because the company is describing Muse Video as a preview, the announcement does not appear to represent a full consumer rollout on the same footing as Muse Image.

What Meta says the models can do

Meta Newsroom says Muse Image supports both generation and editing workflows. The examples described by Meta include changing the style of an image, modifying a subject’s appearance, and redesigning interior spaces. These capabilities are framed by Meta as tools for personal creativity rather than as professional production software.

The Meta AI research page adds more technical context, saying the company is publishing research details and evaluation results for Muse Image and Muse Video. The source presents the models as new media-generation systems from Meta Superintelligence Labs, but the public-facing product announcement focuses mainly on the consumer uses now appearing in Meta AI and Meta’s apps.

Why it matters

The launch puts Meta’s generative image tools more directly inside social and messaging products that already have large user bases. Reuters reported that the rollout includes features tied to Instagram Stories and WhatsApp, which suggests Meta is embedding image generation into everyday sharing and communication flows rather than limiting it to a standalone AI tool.

The Muse Video preview also signals that Meta is preparing to extend those media-generation features beyond still images. However, the available sources characterize Muse Video as an early preview, so its practical availability, limits and final product form remain less defined than Muse Image.

For now, the most concrete change is the rollout of Muse Image across Meta AI and selected Meta app surfaces. The broader significance of Muse Video will depend on what Meta releases after the preview stage and how the company handles quality, safety, and user controls in consumer-facing video generation.
